Rugby is a sport that can be practiced all year round in Malta due to the mild Mediterranean climate. This contributes to Malta being a very sought after destination for rugby tours and for the growing popularity of the sport. Rugby was introduced by the British in the late 19th century and in 1964 the Overseas Rugby Club was established. In 2010 the Malta rugby national seniors men team ranked 48th by the International Rugby Board.
