Visit the largest church in Gozo

Xewkija is famous for Rotunda, its church, dedicated to St. John The Baptist. It is the town’s distinguishing attraction, drawing numerous crowds of tourists and locals annually. This church is the largest one in Gozo, built by Joseph D’ Amato in 1971, replacing an older church.

The dome, measuring 75 metres in height, 27 metres in diameter and 85 metres in circumference, with a weight estimated to be around 45,000 tonnes, is one of the largest in Europe. The rotunda was consecrated on the 17th of June, 1978. The interior is embellished with fine works of art, sculptures and paintings. The floor and the main altar are covered in prestigious marble.
