Fontanella Tea Garden

Fontanella is a terraced cafe integrated within Mdina city walls, ideal to have a slice of its delicious cakes

Fontanella is one of the most popular cafes on the island and it is not hard to understand why. It is located in the cosy and pretty medieval town of Mdina, Malta, perched on Mdina’s Bastions walls and spread out around a central courtyard. Fontanella offers fantastic and unique panoramic views of the east side of Malta stretching all the way to the sea.

Fontanella is famous for its view and its home made and generous slices of incredible cakes! The food menu contains basic dishes such as baguettes, wraps, salads and pizzas. Fontanella’s delicious cakes come in all varieties including chocolate, apple, apricot, walnut and carrot.

Fontanella tends to be busy all year round because of its reputation so one might have to wait a short while to get a table overlooking the walls but it is definitely worth it. However, being Fontanella a café, the turnover of guests is pretty fast, so you never have to wait too long for a table. Don’t be shy upon arrival, there is no seating service, so head up on the upper terrace and grab a good table. Fontanella is a perfect place to have a slice of cake after a day of exploring Mdina, the old capital of Malta, as well as just having a cup of afternoon tea with lovely views.
