Adventure Holidays in Malta

All the adventure you've been dreaming of

Malta is not only a sea and sun destination, it gives you great opportunities to increase your adrenaline too! The small size of the island allows you to do a variety of activities without the need to travel for long distances. Imagine if you could go for a jet-ski trip in the morning, hike along Malta’s beautiful countryside in the afternoon, and go for a sunset sailing cruise in the evening.

The mild climate, the 300 days of sunshine, the Mediterranean landscape and the clear blue waters create a perfect ambience for a great adventure holiday in Malta. The menu of activities is quite extensive, but before you head on to explore what’s on offer, make sure that you get a good holiday insurance that covers you well in case of any accident or emergency.

There are a lot of adventurous activities that you could take on the beach and around the coast. Water-ski, jet-ski, scuba diving, windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking, sailing and so much more. There are specialized shops and schools from where you can rent the equipment needed for the activity. Often there are qualified instructors to teach you the basic skills you need. Some activities, such as diving, require a medical certificate which you can easily get for a small fee.  Other activities such as hiking and windsurfing are organized by smaller informal groups, as no formal training needs to take place.

Water activities

Malta is a haven for diving; it’s one of the most famous destinations in the world. There are many diving clubs that offer you training and equipment, no matter what your level is. Try wreck dives or explore caves and reefs, and enjoy the wonderful underwater world. You can see many different species of fish and sea plants as well as various remains of sunken ships.

If diving is too much for you, you can try snorkeling, which allows you to explore the Maltese creeks and inlets at a more relaxed pace. Experience the snorkeling paradise in Comino by exploring the beautiful crystal clear waters of the Blue Lagoon.

You can also exploit the natural elements and try windsurfing and sailing. Malta hosts some of the Mediterranean’s most important races as well as the world’s most professional yacht people. The yacht marinas have upgraded facilities that offer a great port of call, while the sailing schools and charter companies ensure your satisfaction whether you’re a novice sailor or not. You can choose from bareboat charters or accompanied cruising, or else, you can even try paddling your own canoe!

If on the other hand, you have the need for speed, look out for jet-ski and water-ski centres available near the main resorts, particularly in Sliema and St. Julian’s. Make sure to follow the safety regulations, but otherwise the sea is yours to ride!

Adventure on land

Malta offers several other adventure options that take you around the incredible landscape of the country. Try rock climbing or abseiling, which will take you to beautiful rock faces with spectacular sea and countryside views.

If you’re visiting Malta during spring or autumn, you might enjoy trekking, rambling and mountain biking, which will take you around the most beautiful hidden gems existing on the island, whether on the coastal areas or further inland. There are also horse riding opportunities, which will give you an alternative way of exploring Malta.

Adventure in the air

Last but not least, in Malta you can also find possibilities for exhilarating activities from high above. You can try sky diving after only a few sessions of training, and enjoy the thrill of this incredible activity. You can also try paragliding, which gives you a great opportunity to take a bird’s eye view of the Mediterranean landscape and waters.

If however, your adventurous levels are running a bit low, you always take a sightseeing trip with a helicopter, where you can stay in your seat and enjoy the spectacular views below!

No matter what your age and your skills are, an adventure holiday in Malta is quite a good idea, you can find your favourite activity just a few minutes away!
