NTLive presents Timon of Athens
One of the most prestigious Shakespeare playsTimon of Athens will be broadcasted live at the theatre of St. James Cavalier on the 1st of November as part of the National Theatre Live programme. Simon Russell Beale plays the main role in Shakespeare's fable of consumption, debt and ruin. Timon of Athens is a friend of the rich and powerful, patron of the arts and an incredible host, but he is continuously surrounded by free-loaders and sycophants. He spends more than he affords, but when his money finishes, he remains sure that all will be well. Instead of offering help, his associates hang him out to dry. After a final banquet, Timon withdraws to an emotional wasteland, living off roots and pouring curses on a morally bankrupt Athens. The cast includes: Martin Chamberlain, Jason Cheater, Stavros Demetraki, Paul Dodds, Deborah Findlay, Ciaran McMenamin, Simon Russell Beale and Nick Sampson. The show is directed by Nicholas Hytner, designed by Tim Hatley and Bruno Poet. There will be encores playes on 11th & 16th November and the 9th of December, for which the prices are €10, concessions €8 and children under 16: €5. |
