The Cross and the Crescent

Public Lecture highlighting the clash of civilizations

After the recent restoration works on the St. Cecilia Medieval Chapel in Ghajnsielem, Wirt Ghawdex will be holding a public lecture entitled ‘The Cross and the Crescent,’ by Dr Paul George Pisani.

The name of this event is inspired by the famous book ‘The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order.’ Samuel P. Huntington’s. The Battle of Lepanto was named as the last crusade, but the lecture will illustrate that this event did damage the Turks but offered no enduring legacy.

The lecture will be held in English and will focus on the ‘clash of civilizations’ bewteen Christianity and Islam. The role of the Order of Malta, still recovering from the 1565 siege, shall be discussed in detail by analysing unpublished manuscripts form at the National Library of Malta.

The lecture will also include pertinent illustrations, aiming to emphasise the historical roots of today’s uneasiness. Everyone is invited to attend this lecture, so if you're interested in this amazing topic, head to St. Cecilia's Chapel in Ghajnsielem on Friday the 3rd of February.
