Participate in the Notte Bianca 2011 during your holiday in Malta and experience this night-long celebration of culture and arts in Valletta. Notte Bianca is a very popular event that attracts thousands of visitors from all across Malta.

All the monuments, state palaces, museums and important buildings in Valletta are open to the public throughout the night and the visitors can for the first time of the year visit buildings that would not open otherwise.

Apart from various buildings and monuments to visit, Notte Bianca in Malta also has several events that will entertain you and carry you through the night: wandering around the beautiful streets of Valletta you will come across a number of dance and theatre performances.

This is also your chance to shop until late with food and drinks being served all night long. Notte Bianca is an unforgettable event, organized by the Malta Council for Culture & the Arts with the support of the Ministry for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport.

Lascaris war rooms were the Operational Headquarters which were built in order to provide a secure place from where war operations could be conducted. The war rooms are located deep in the rock under St Peter and St Paul Bastion which forms part of the defences of Valletta built by the Knights of St John in 1566.

7. Auberge de Castille *
The original Auberge was built by the renowned Maltese architect Girolamo Cassar in 1574. It was extensively re-modelled and virtually rebuilt in 1741, the present plan of the imposing structure attributed to Andrea Belli. State and official rooms will be opened for viewing.

20. Soċjeta` Filarmonika Nazzjonali ‘La Valette’ – Republic Street
The ‘La Valette’ band has been playing in the streets of Valletta since the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in July 1875.

83. St Francis of Assisi Church – Republic Street
The Church was built in 1598 and was completed by 1607. In 1681 it was built anew through the "munificence" of Grand Master Gregorio Carafa, whose coat of arms adorns the façade. The church still hosts precious works of art including paintings by Mattia Preti, Pietro Gagliardi and Filippo Paladini, as well as the titular statue of St Francis.

22. Palazzo Parisio (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) – Merchants Street
Built in the late 18th century, the Palazzo became Napoleon's headquarters during his short visit in Malta. It is named after Chevalier Paolo Parisio Muscati, a Neapolitan Maltese nobleman who played an influential role during the latter years of the Order of St. John’s rule in Malta.

44. Sanctuary Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel – Old Theatre Street *
The Carmelite priests moved to the new city of Valletta in 1570. The first church dedicated to our Lady of Mount Carmel was designed by the famous Maltese architect Gilormu Cassar. This Church served as the fist parish of the new capital between 1570 and 1582.

76. St Mary of Jesus (Ta’ Giezu) Church
The church of the Friars Minor, is dedicated to St Mary of Jesus, known as Ta' Ġieżu. In 1571 the Friars Minor were granted a piece of land in Valletta (Malta) on which to build a church. Work began shortly afterwards, following the design of Gerolamo Cassar. The facade was replaced in 1680 by Mederico Blondel. The main attraction is undoubtedly the impressive Miraculous Crucifix (in Maltese: Il-Kurċifiss Mirakuluż), by the Sicilian friar Umile Pintorno around 1630.
