Good Friday Night Pilgrimage 2015

Join the Good Friday Pilgrime and walk 30 km together

For the 12th consecutive year, on the night between Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, the annual pilgrimage from Mellieha to Senglea is being organised. Last year, over 8000 people participated and in this event and this year numbers are expected to grow further. 

This night walk started by Mr Joseph Vella from Mellieha and his son in law Glenn, but year after year the number of people joining this night walk has increased exponentially. 

For several years participants of this night event in Malta have now been contributing to the Puttinu Cares Cancer Support Group cause. Last year €80,000 were collected both from participants and several other sponsors who support this event. Participants are asked to donate a minimum of €10.

Everybody is invited to join the Good Friday Night Pilgrimage 2015 on Friday 3rd April which starts at 2:00am sharp from Misrah iz-Zjara tal-Papa (outside the Sanctuary of Our Lady) in Mellieħa. Those joining are invited to be in Mellieha latest by 1:30am. This is approximately a 4 hour walk covering around 30 kilometres.

Upon arrival, a certificate of participation will be awarded to all participants and many choose to enter the Parish Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Senglea to pay their respects to Christ the Redeemer (Ir-Redentur ta’ l-Isla).

Water stations and refreshments will be available along the walk. 

Free transport prior to the walk from Senglea, at around midnight, and after the walk to Mellieha will be provided upon booking. 

Minibuses will be available along the route to pick up those who decide to stop and these will be taken to Senglea. Medical staff will also be on standby in case of emergencies.
