Simar Nature Reserve

Simar Nature Reserve offers an ideal habitat for migratory birds and is an ideal bird watching site

Is-Simar Nature Reserve is located at Pwales Valley, a rich farming area in the Northern part of Malta, close to Xemxija and St. Paul’s Bay.

Here you can find native trees, a range of breeding birds, wintering birds and passage birds, aquatic wildlife, and other reptiles such as snakes and chameleons.  Is-Simar is a Special Protected Ara under the EU Natura 2000 network.

Before the 1980’s the site was a neglected marsh, but during the 1990s it was cleaned up by Birdlife and transformed into a sanctuary with three bird watching sites, hosting a wide variety of wildlife under constant protection.

The site can be best enjoyed if you take the nature path around the reserve and the visitor centre provides all the information that you’re interested in. The site is open from November to May.
