The Bacchae by The Malta Amateur Dramatic Club

Enoy the modern version of the Greek play The Bacchae

The Malta Amateur Dramatic Club (MADC) is proudly presenting a modern version of the Greek play The Bacchae by Euripides. The Bacchae is one of the top Greek tragedies - savage, comic and intensely lyrical and the public is invited to this fantastic show held in the MITP Theatre, Valletta. The Bacchae is a vibrant production that creatively mixes dance, music, comedy and drama with original music score by Alexander Vella Gregory and will be a performance to remember.

This show brings out and demonstrates to the public the conflict between conservatism and liberalism, power and domination, making a 2000 year old topic, both interesting and relevant to the modern world.

The magnetic young Dionysos - icon, hedonist, god, son of Zeus - returns home with his cult of female followers to exact his revenge. Most angered by its refusal to acknowledge his divinity, he unleashing the full force of female sexuality on the city destroying social order.
