Giovanni Verga is the best known novelist of the Sicilian verismo school. Verga’s best know play, “L:a Lupa” (Il-Kilba), is also drawn from one of his stories and was first intended as a libretto for an opera by Puccini.
Set in Sicily, Pina, an elemental but still beautiful woman, is led to sacrifice her daughter, her property and finally her own life for her uncontrollable sexual desire for the handsome young Nanni.
