San Anton Palazzo

San Anton Palazzo is a beautiful beautiful building in Attard that houses the residence of the President of Malta

San Anton Palazzo is located in Attard and is the official residence of the President of Malta. The palace was built by the Knights between 1623 and 1636 to serve as a summer residence for Grandmaster de Paule.

From 1802 to 1964, San Anton Palace served as the official residence of the British Governor, remaining a state building ever since. Queen Elizabeth II resided at this palace during her various visits to Malta, both in her capacity of Queen of Malta in 1954 and 1967 and later as Head of the Commonwealth of Nations in 2005.

The palazzo is surrounded by both private and public gardens called San Anton Gardens that have been visited by various heads of state over the years and a number of plaques commemorating tree-planting ceremonies.
